My Reading Choice

I am very excited to be coming back to a book I really enjoyed the first time I read it: "You, Them, and the Others" by E. G. Frontera. This book stands out to me for the way it grabs your attention with the 2nd person narrative point of view. It has these characters that are bizarre, powerful, and a bit intimidating. Manus is blessed (or cursed?) with big hands, and Bucca has a mouth that is immense, as well as an appetite and voice to go with it. We (the main character?) are hiding in a closet amongst armor and weapons as this book begins, and we are seeing each character as they come into our bedroom, which is covered in sand and smells of the sea. It really is a book I am glad to share with the class! Oh, and I forgot to mention - there is a version of the text in Spanish that we have in the room, also. It is cool to try out the Spanish we're learning by trying to read some of this story in that language.

I want to know what you are reading now, and why you are excited about it. Thanks for reading my post!
-Mr. S.

Dear 4st Teacher,

Your description of "You, Them, and the Others" is extremely interesting to me... I think I'll have to check this one out.

I am currently reading "The Lovely Bones," for a second time, in fact. I was interested that it became a movie, so I decided to read it again.

Sincerely,
Mrs. M.

Hello, Mr. S. This is MouMou. I was listening to you read this book to the class, and when I read your post, I thought of a question. I am wondering if you didn't include Occulus in your post because he was such a scary guy (with those gigantic eyes that can see everything), or maybe since he was the first character who shows up in the room. Or maybe you forgot about him? I do wish you'd keep going with this book; I'm ready to hear about the "Others".

Since you asked, I am reading "The Tale of Despereaux" by Kate DiCamillo. It is like the eighth time I am reading it. I just never get tired of it, and always seem to find something new in the words or pictures each time. You might guess that I like it so much since it is about a mouse with big ears, but also since I enjoy fairy tales. This novel has a lot in common with fairy tales that I enjoyed as a little mouse, such as there being a princess that lives in a castle.

Dear 4St Teacher,
You have definitely added some mystery to your description of the book. I am intrigued. I'll have to find it in the library. Can't wait to hear more.
I also finished the hot Percy Jackson series recently in expectation of the movie which comes out tonight at midnight. It's definitely on our to-do list for vacation.

Dear Mr.S,
I have never read a book in second person before. I do not know if I want to read "You, Them, and the others" because it sounds scary and I am scared of scary books.

I am reading a book called,"Reluctantly Alice" by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. I like it because Alice writes in her journal like I do. My favorite scene was the slumber party.
